Because Align grades use up to 50% less wood fiber than freesheet, significantly fewer trees are required. A life cycle assessment (LCA), comparing the environmental impact of the Align grades manufactured at our Alma, Quebec mill to the impact of the average of North American uncoated freesheet mills found our paper has significantly less impact:
Ecopaque Offset, Ecopaque Laser, Ecopaque Jet and Equal Offset have a fraction (8-19%) of the carbon footprint of uncoated freesheet over their life cycle; these grades use less than half the amount of energy (36-40%) to produce as compared to uncoated freesheet.
An LCA comparing the environmental impact of ResoluteMax manufactured at our Catawba, South Carolina mill to the average of North American coated freesheet mills found ResoluteMax to have less impact.
ResoluteMax has a carbon footprint that is 35% less than coated freesheet over its life cycle; and ResoluteMax only uses 70% of the amount of energy to produce compared to the average for coated freesheet.
Mills producing Align grades are certified to one or more of the following internationally recognized third-party-audited chain of custody systems:
